LowCVSS 3.4
Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Exploitation Probability (EPSS)

High risk
1.97%

80th percentile - higher than 80% of all known CVEs

Summary

When asked to both use a `.netrc` file for credentials and to follow HTTP redirects, curl could leak the password used for the first host to the followed-to host under certain circumstances. This flaw only manifests itself if the netrc file has an entry that matches the redirect target hostname but the entry either omits just the password or omits both login and password.

Risk Assessment

Credentials may leak to an untrusted host, enabling an attacker to take over an account or gain unauthorized access to protected resources.

Recommendation

Update curl to a patched version. Also avoid combining a .netrc file with automatic redirect following and review entries in the .netrc file.
