Summary

OrbiTeam BSCW Server 5.x before 5.2.5 and 7.x before 7.4.4 contains an unauthenticated path traversal vulnerability in the style_name parameter of the theme operation. Attackers can send GET requests to /pub/bscw.cgi/<id>?op=theme with ../ sequences in style_name to read local files such as /etc/passwd.

Risk Assessment

An unauthenticated attacker can read arbitrary files from the server, potentially leading to disclosure of sensitive data such as passwords or configuration. Exploitation evidence has been observed in the wild.

Recommendation

Update BSCW Server to version 5.2.5 or 7.4.4 (or later). If updating is not possible, restrict access to the /pub/bscw.cgi endpoint and monitor for suspicious requests.
