Weekly CVE digest
One email a week with newly published vulnerabilities worth knowing about. No account needed.
This digest covers new vulnerabilities in general, not your servers. If you want to know which of them actually run in your infrastructure, that is what Secvalis does: it scans your machines and reports only what concerns them.
The tarfile module in Python has a vulnerability in its extraction filters that allows creating directories outside the destination for members whose name leaves the destination and returns to it (e.g., ../evil/../dest/sub/file). The issue affects only POSIX platforms and creates only empty directories outside the destination.
OpenEMR before version 8.3.0 contains a path traversal vulnerability in the EDI archive restore function. The archrestore_sel parameter is passed without sanitization, and differing response messages leak whether the target path exists. An authenticated user with EOB Data Entry permissions can probe arbitrary filesystem paths.
In maalfer Pentestify versions 1.2.0 through 2.3.2, there is a vulnerability due to incorrect behavior order (validate before canonicalize) in the report theme CSS sanitizer. An authenticated user can force outbound HTTP requests from other users' browsers, disclosing their IP address and User-Agent, via CSS hex escapes that reconstruct the url() function and evade the sanitizer blocklist.
The Joomla extension - cmsjunkie.com - J-BusinessDirectory before version 6.2.3 contains a reflected XSS / XML injection vulnerability. The companyName parameter from the request is written unescaped into an XML attribute, potentially allowing execution of malicious scripts in the victim's browser.
Joomla extension J-BusinessDirectory before version 6.2.3 contains a Cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability. Tokens are missing on many AJAX/state-changing tasks such as contact/quote forms, cart, bookmarks, uploads, messages, AI text generation, and several administrator actions. Frontend CSRF requires a registered/listing-owner session, while admin CSRF requires a backend admin session.
Joomla extension J-BusinessDirectory before version 6.2.3 contains an Insecure Direct Object Reference (IDOR) vulnerability in multiple frontend/API actions. This vulnerability allows direct object references without proper authorization.
Joomla extension J-BusinessDirectory before version 6.2.3 contains an unauthenticated listing ownership takeover vulnerability. Ownership could be changed using attacker-supplied company and user IDs, including for listings that already had an owner. Version 6.2.3 binds the action to the authenticated user and only allows unowned listings.
Dell Command Update (DCU) versions prior to 5.7.1 contain an Improper Restriction of XML External Entity Reference vulnerability. A low privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Elevation of privileges and Server-side request forgery.
Dell Command Update (DCU) versions prior to 5.7.1 contain an Exposure of Sensitive System Information to an Unauthorized Control Sphere vulnerability. A low privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Information disclosure.
Dell Command Update (DCU) versions prior to 5.7.1 contain an Incorrect Authorization vulnerability. A low privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Elevation of privileges.
Dell Command Update (DCU) versions prior to 5.7.1 contain an Improper Link Resolution Before File Access ('Link Following') vulnerability. A low privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Elevation of Privileges.
Dell OpenManage Enterprise versions prior to 4.7.0 contain an Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') vulnerability. A low privileged attacker with remote access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Information exposure.
Ground Station prior to version 0.4.13 contains a vulnerability where the unauthenticated configure-sdr Socket.IO command accepts a recordingPath for the sigmf-playback SDR and stores it without validation before opening the path without enforcing containment. An absolute path or parent-directory escape ending in .sigmf-meta is parsed as JSON and returned in reply["data"]["metadata"] by the get-sdr-parameters flow. Exploitation requires the metadata file to be readable JSON and to have a sibling .sigmf-data file, but it can disclose contents outside backend/data/recordings without authentication.
Contour versions 1.23.0 through 1.33.4 contain a vulnerability where when an HTTPProxy is configured with an incompatible combination of .spec.virtualhost.tls.enableFallbackCertificate: true and .spec.virtualhost.jwtProviders, Contour does not reject the configuration. Consequently, requests from clients that do not send TLS SNI or send an unrecognized SNI bypass configured JWT verification and are proxied to upstream services without a valid token. This issue is fixed in Contour v1.33.5, which rejects and marks invalid such HTTPProxy resources.
MyBooks (Talebook) version 3.41.2 and earlier does not enforce the ALLOW_REGISTER configuration flag in the SignUp.post handler, allowing an unauthenticated attacker to create an account even when the administrator disabled public registration. Additionally, the process_auth_header function does not verify the account's active flag, so a newly created unactivated account can authenticate immediately and access user-level API functionality. This issue is fixed in version 3.42.0.
OpenEMR before 8.3.0 contains a cross-site request forgery vulnerability in the DICOM viewer. The web_path GET parameter is embedded as a URL without validation against expected path formats. An attacker can craft a URL that causes an authenticated user with Patients - Documents permissions to make authenticated requests to arbitrary OpenEMR endpoints, enabling forced logout and other state-changing actions.
OpenEMR before 8.3.0 contains a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in the patient portal template import handler. Authenticated attackers with Forms Administration permissions can upload template files containing arbitrary HTML or JavaScript. Malicious scripts are stored without sanitization and execute in the browser of any other Forms Administration user who views the template in the HTML editor.
OpenEMR before 8.3.0 contains a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in the patient portal template import handler. The templateHtml GET parameter is reflected into the page response without sanitization. An attacker can craft a URL that executes arbitrary JavaScript in the browser of any authenticated user with Forms Administration permissions who visits the link, enabling session hijacking.
Dell PowerPath, version 7.2 through to 8.0 SP1, contains an Improper Privilege Management vulnerability. A low privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Elevation of privileges.
IBM PowerVM Hypervisor versions FW1120.00, FW1110.00 through FW1110.30, and FW1060.00 through FW1060.80 contain a vulnerability due to improper control of format strings. A local attacker could exploit this to obtain sensitive information or cause a denial of service.
