Weekly CVE digest
One email a week with newly published vulnerabilities worth knowing about. No account needed.
This digest covers new vulnerabilities in general, not your servers. If you want to know which of them actually run in your infrastructure, that is what Secvalis does: it scans your machines and reports only what concerns them.
A vulnerability in Apache bRPC (versions < 1.18.0) stems from an interpretation conflict in HTTP path handling between bRPC and a front proxy. The FindMethodPropertyByURI() function skips empty path segments (consecutive slashes), so paths like //flags are dispatched as /flags, even though RFC 3986 treats them as distinct. Additionally, HTTP/2 does not validate the :path pseudo-header, allowing bypass of proxy ACL rules and access to internal services.
A use-after-free exists in the RTMP protocol implementation in Apache bRPC (version < 1.18.0). A malicious RTMP peer can crash the process or potentially corrupt memory via a crafted Abort message. The root cause is that the receive path deletes the target RtmpChunkStream object while the send path concurrently dereferences it without synchronization.
A NULL pointer dereference in the RTMP protocol implementation in Apache bRPC (versions < 1.18.0) occurs when the server rejects a createStream request by returning a null stream and then fails to write the error response, causing a crash. A remote attacker can trigger a denial of service by sending a crafted createStream command and closing the connection before the rejection response is written.
A data race in the RDMA transport of Apache bRPC (versions < 1.18.0) allows a remote client to crash the server process (denial of service) when RDMA is enabled at build time and runtime. After the RDMA handshake completes, the server keeps parsing the TCP fd as an RPC channel, sharing the input buffer and parser state with RDMA CQ event processing without synchronization, leading to corruption and a crash.
A vulnerability in Apache bRPC versions before 1.18.0 allows a malicious remote peer to crash the process by racing connection teardown against health check revival. In the window where the Socket is addressable but has no file descriptor, a CHECK failure terminates the process, resulting in denial of service.
A Thrift client in Apache bRPC (version < 1.18.0, built with WITH_THRIFT which is off by default) can be crashed by the server peer it talks to. When the server returns a T_EXCEPTION reply with a malformed exception struct, the client decodes it without catching Apache Thrift exceptions (TProtocolException, TTransportException or std::length_error), causing std::terminate() and terminating the whole process along with every other in-flight RPC.
Uncontrolled recursion in the mcpack2pb component in Apache bRPC (version < 1.18.0) on all platforms allows remote attackers to make the server crash via sending deeply nested mcpack data. The parser recursively parses nested objects and arrays without any depth limit, leading to stack overflow and process crash.
Enforceable assertion in the streaming feature of Apache bRPC (version < 1.18.0) on all platforms allows a remote attacker to crash the server process by sending a malformed stream feedback frame. Stream::SetRemoteConsumed() contains CHECK(_cur_buf_size > 0) and unconditionally asserts CHECK(buf.IsEmpty()) on the frame payload; a feedback frame with an unexpected payload or received on a stream with flow control disabled reaches these assertions, and CHECK failures abort the process.
In a BIND resolver, inbound DNS protocol messages with a particular structure will result in additional processing, with no limit imposed by BIND. A DNS message with a maliciously large number of such structures will cause BIND to consume disproportionate amounts of CPU time and memory during processing. This issue affects BIND 9 versions 9.11.0 through 9.18.50, 9.20.0 through 9.20.29, 9.21.0 through 9.21.26, 9.11.3-S1 through 9.18.50-S1, and 9.20.9-S1 through 9.20.29-S1.
e107 CMS before 2.3.13 contains a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious HTML by manipulating the author GET parameter in search.php. The parameter is parsed with parse_str() and concatenated unescaped into a rendered input tag, allowing execution of arbitrary JavaScript in the victim's browser session.
An improper array index validation vulnerability in Velneo vServer affects versions from 36.0 before 36.6 and from 37.0 before 37.2. The flaw may lead to unsafe out-of-bounds memory access.
PHPOffice PHPPresentation 1.2.0 contains a cross-site scripting vulnerability in the HTML writer that allows attackers who supply presentation content to inject script into generated HTML. Attackers can craft a PPTX with malicious text runs, hyperlink relationship targets, or shape descr attributes that are emitted unescaped, executing script in viewers' browsers.
PHPOffice PHPPresentation through 1.2.0 contains an insecure deserialization vulnerability that allows attackers to instantiate arbitrary PHP objects by supplying a crafted presentation file. Attackers can upload a ZIP containing PhpPresentation.xml that IOFactory::load passes to unserialize(), enabling gadget-chain code execution, file writes, or denial of service.
Trudesk through 1.2.11 contains a path traversal and authorization bypass vulnerability in accountsController.uploadImage that allows authenticated users to overwrite other users' avatars via form-supplied _id and username fields. Attackers can supply a username like /../../../x to bypass the incomplete CVE-2022-1752 sanitization and write png, jpg, jpeg, or gif files outside public/uploads/users.
Trudesk through 1.2.11 contains a regular expression injection vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to enumerate usernames by submitting regex patterns to POST /api/v1/login. Attackers can distinguish 'Invalid User' from 'Invalid Password' responses to discover valid accounts.
Trudesk through 1.2.11 contains a missing authentication vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to download private ticket attachments under /uploads. Because express.static serves the public/ directory before the hasAuth-guarded /uploads mount, attackers who know or guess a ticket ObjectId and filename can retrieve confidential attachments.
Trudesk through 1.2.11 contains a path traversal vulnerability that allows administrators to delete arbitrary files by supplying encoded traversal sequences to DELETE /api/v1/backup/:backup. Attackers can also pass unvalidated file values to POST /api/v1/backup/restore to restore archives from, or extract to, paths outside the intended directories.
Trudesk through 1.2.11 contains an unrestricted file upload vulnerability that allows any authenticated user to place HTML or SVG files in the public webroot via the uploadlogo, uploadpagelogo, and uploadfavicon endpoints. Attackers can spoof an image MIME type to upload script-bearing files served unauthenticated from /assets/.
Trudesk through 1.2.11 contains a missing authentication vulnerability in debug routes enabled whenever NODE_ENV is unset, letting unauthenticated attackers invoke them remotely. Attackers can call /debug/populatedb to delete all groups, tags and tickets, then log in with seeded accounts using the password 'password'.
Trudesk through 1.2.11 contains a server-side JavaScript injection vulnerability that allows authenticated users to inject code into a MongoDB $where clause via the search parameter. Attackers can close the regular expression in GET /api/v1/tickets/search to loop mongod for denial of service or leak full ticket documents including internal notes.
