Weekly CVE digest
One email a week with newly published vulnerabilities worth knowing about. No account needed.
This digest covers new vulnerabilities in general, not your servers. If you want to know which of them actually run in your infrastructure, that is what Secvalis does: it scans your machines and reports only what concerns them.
Pillow, a Python imaging library, prior to 13.0.0 allows MpoImageFile.seek() and DcxImageFile.seek() to reparse later MPO or DCX frames and replace self._size without rerunning Image._decompression_bomb_check(). A crafted multi-frame image can use a tiny first frame to pass Image.open() and then declare an over-limit later frame, which during normal frame iteration through seek(), load(), or ImageSequence.Iterator can decode that frame and commit hundreds of megabytes or more, causing memory-exhaustion denial of service.
A screen capture endpoint in the vCast media streaming service in ViewSonic ViewBoard allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to capture and exfiltrate the current screen content. GET requests to unauthenticated /snapshot or /screen endpoints return JPEGs.
TastyIgniter through 4.4.5 contains a PHP object injection vulnerability that allows authenticated administrators to achieve arbitrary code execution by submitting a serialized PHP object as a settings value, which is stored unsanitized and later unserialized by getValueAttribute() when the setting is read. Attackers can submit a serialized gadget chain, such as one generated via phpggc, through the admin settings form (for example the maintenance_message setting loaded by CheckMaintenance.php) to achieve arbitrary operating-system command execution as the PHP application process user, with the impact persisting until the value is overwritten.
The system certificate authority (CA) store in Red Hat products, distributed via ca-certificates RPM packages, included multiple root CA certificates of authorities that signed intermediate CA certificates with weak private keys issued by the eMudhra certificate authority. A man-in-the-middle attacker could exploit this flaw to issue certificates for arbitrary host names signed by the weak intermediate CA certificates, which would be considered trusted by TLS/SSL clients using the system CA store. Due to the inability to distrust only specific intermediate certificates in all clients, root CA certificates of authorities that signed weak intermediate certificates are being removed.
A vulnerability was found in itsourcecode Online Cake Ordering System 1.0. Impacted is an unknown function of the file /inserttrans.php. Performing a manipulation of the argument prcd results in sql injection. The attack is possible to be carried out remotely. The exploit has been made public and could be used.
A flaw has been found in EKKOLearnAI ekko-studio up to 1.0.6. This vulnerability affects the function saveGeneratedImages of the file packages/server/src/modules/studio/controllers/media.ts of the component Media Generation API. This manipulation of the argument output_path causes file inclusion. Remote exploitation of the attack is possible. Patch name: 1d42459c292f89e412f7f6243829e7fed2e85bf5.
A vulnerability was detected in itsourcecode Online Cake Ordering System 1.0. This affects an unknown part of the file /deleteproduct.php. The manipulation of the argument ID results in sql injection. The attack may be launched remotely. The exploit is now public and may be used.
In leomoon-studios wiki-go up to 1.9.1, the DeleteComment function in internal/comments/comments.go (Comment Deletion Handler) is vulnerable to path traversal via manipulation of the documentPath argument. The attack may be initiated remotely and the exploit has been publicly disclosed. Upgrading to version 1.9.2 (patch commit 224ef2a11facddef6b3a3c1f0a69156d1e574a33) resolves the issue.
GitPython is a Python library for interacting with Git repositories. Prior to 3.2.1, create_submodule() in git/objects/submodule/base.py accepts an attacker-influenced submodule path such as .git/hooks and invokes _clone_repo() before safely rejecting the destination. In 3.1.x, _validate_repo_path() does not exist and the call succeeds silently, while in 3.2.0 and later the check in git/index/base.py raises ValueError only after the clone has written to disk and does not remove the planted file. An attacker-controlled submodule can therefore place an executable post-checkout hook that a later Git operation executes.
toml-node is a TOML parser for Node.js and browsers. Prior to 5.0.1, toml.parse() passes unbounded hexadecimal, octal, binary, and decimal digit sequences to BigInt() before the 64-bit range check, allowing a single attacker-supplied TOML document to synchronously block the Node.js event loop and cause denial of service.
toml-node is a TOML parser for Node.js and the browser. Prior to 5.0.1, toml.parse() repeatedly slices and rejoins every path prefix in lib/compiler.js while processing long dotted keys, table headers, array-of-tables headers, and inline-table keys in assign(), deepRef(), and setNestedKey(). The resulting quadratic work can block the Node.js event loop for several seconds, and sufficiently long paths can terminate the process through memory exhaustion.
toml-node is a TOML parser for Node.js and the browser. Prior to 5.0.1, toml.parse() can write attacker-controlled properties to Object.prototype because quoteDottedString() in lib/compiler.js produces the same bookkeeping string for distinct quoted key paths, allowing addTableArray() to clear another key's guard. The assign() path then descends through an unowned Date value without applying the owned-container check and can reach the prototype chain. Objects created elsewhere in the process can inherit the injected property. This issue is fixed in version 5.0.1.
toml-node is a TOML parser for Node.js and the browser. Prior to 5.0.1, the toml.parse() compiler's addTableArray() function in lib/compiler.js rescans the complete assignedPaths and valueAssignments bookkeeping sets for every array-of-tables header. Distinct [[name]] paths are not pruned, so a document with many such headers causes quadratic synchronous work and can block the Node.js event loop, denying service to other operations in the process.
The nbconvert tool, jupyter nbconvert, converts Jupyter notebooks to various other formats via Jinja templates. From 5.4.0 until 7.17.2, ExtractOutputPreprocessor in nbconvert/preprocessors/extractoutput.py joins the attacker-controlled cell output metadata filename to output_files_dir without limiting the result to the intended directory. When a victim converts a malicious notebook with the markdown, LaTeX, reStructuredText, or AsciiDoc exporter, path traversal in the output filename can write attacker-controlled output data to arbitrary locations accessible to the victim.
In the webpack integration for @sentry/nextjs from 9.36.0 until 9.47.2, 10.75.2, and 11.0.0-rc.1, application middleware is skipped for every request path under a configured tunnelRoute. When an application route collides with the tunnel path, an unauthenticated request can reach that route without middleware authorization.
Django REST framework is a toolkit for building Web APIs. Prior to 3.18.2, DefaultContentNegotiation.get_accept_list in rest_framework/negotiation.py accepts an unbounded number and aggregate size of Accept tokens, while select_renderer in that file repeatedly invokes _MediaType parsing from rest_framework/utils/mediatypes.py for each attacker-controlled token, every renderer, and forced 406 renegotiation. A remote unauthenticated client can send many distinct media types containing large quoted parameter values with numerous semicolons, causing Django's parameter parser and DRF's repeated parsing structure to consume disproportionate CPU. Requests to any reachable endpoint can pin synchronous workers for prolonged periods, and concurrent requests can make the service unavailable until the requests stop. This issue is fixed in version 3.18.2.
In Django REST framework from 3.12.0 until 3.18.2, TokenProxy.delete() uses the proxy's user-id pk while the concrete Token token-string primary key identifies rows, so Django issues a deletion query that matches no row and reports zero deletions without raising an error. Applications or scripts revoking credentials through a TokenProxy instance may believe revocation succeeded while the token remains live and continues authenticating, and DRF tokens do not expire automatically.
A vulnerability in the Perl Algorithm::UrataniTakeda library (versions 0.1.5 to 0.1.7) allows memory exhaustion via a never-cleared failure shift cache during search. The cache stores entries for each pair of trie state and text character and is never cleared, leading to memory growth with each search involving new characters.
A flaw was found in OpenSCAP. When decomposing a Source DataStream (SDS) file, the application does not properly validate relative file path attributes, leading to a path traversal vulnerability. An attacker can exploit this flaw by tricking a user or automated system into decomposing a crafted datastream containing directory traversal sequences. Successful exploitation allows unauthorized file creation or modification outside the intended target directory with the permissions of the executing process.
A flaw was found in the Update User Locale required action of the Keycloak identity and access management solution. When this action is ordered before the Configure OTP action in a realm, the system may fail to enforce mandatory multi-factor authentication enrollment during the login process. This issue allows an attacker with a valid password to access an account without setting up the required one-time password (OTP) credential.
