Weekly CVE digest
One email a week with newly published vulnerabilities worth knowing about. No account needed.
This digest covers new vulnerabilities in general, not your servers. If you want to know which of them actually run in your infrastructure, that is what Secvalis does: it scans your machines and reports only what concerns them.
undici is an HTTP client library for Node.js. In versions 4.2.1 through 6.29.0, 7.0.0 through 7.30.0, and 8.0.0 through 8.12.1, the client process crashes when a TLS 1.2 server renegotiates after the connection is established and presents a different, CA-trusted certificate whose hostname does not match the requested host. Node.js re-runs hostname verification on the renegotiated handshake and destroys the socket with a certificate-altname error, but undici's established-socket error handler asserted that this error code could never occur, so the peer-controlled error became an uncaught assertion that terminates the Node.js process, affecting both the HTTP/1.1 and HTTP/2 paths. A malicious or compromised HTTPS endpoint reached through undici or the global fetch() can crash the client with a single server-initiated renegotiation, taking down all in-flight requests and background work in the process, and exploitation needs no CA compromise because the attacker controls the endpoint and can present two ordinary valid certificates. Only TLS 1.2 is affected, since TLS 1.3 does not support renegotiation. The issue is fixed in undici 6.29.1, 7.30.1, and 8.12.2, and users should upgrade to one of those versions or later. As a workaround, restrict outbound connections to TLS 1.3 so renegotiation cannot occur, when the target endpoints support it.
GYM One is open-source gym management software for fitness centers, personal trainers, and sports clubs. Prior to 1.4.1, GYM One's admin/users/index.php renders the stored firstname, lastname, and email profile fields into the administrator user list without HTML output encoding. An attacker who can store values in those fields can cause content to execute in an administrator's browser when the administrator visits /admin/users/. The persistent script can access administrator-session data or perform actions with the administrator's privileges until the stored record is removed. This issue is fixed in version 1.4.1.
AliasVault is a privacy-first password manager with built-in email aliasing. Prior to 0.29.4, the AliasVault browser extension passkey provider does not bind passkey requests to the actual webpage origin or verify that the requested relying-party identifier matches the current website. A malicious website can provide forged origin and relying-party values and, if a victim with a matching stored passkey approves the AliasVault passkey prompt, obtain a valid assertion for a different website. Exploitation requires the extension to be installed, unlocked, and configured as a passkey provider, requires a stored passkey for the impersonated site, and cannot occur silently because the victim must approve the prompt. The server, web application, and mobile applications are not affected. This issue is fixed in version 0.29.4.
Tianji is an open source analytics, uptime monitoring, and server status platform. Prior to 1.31.29, the getDateQuery() function in src/server/utils/prisma.ts constructs raw SQL through Prisma.sql() by interpolating the timezone request value without parameter binding. The timezone value can reach affected analytics queries through request data or the timezone HTTP header, and workspaceProcedure permits any authenticated workspace member, including a read-only viewer, to reach those queries. An attacker can execute arbitrary SQL against the shared PostgreSQL database, which can disclose or modify credentials, API keys, and tenant data or make the service unavailable. This issue is fixed in version 1.31.29.
An authorization flaw in Idira Conjur version 13.9.0 allows an authenticated user with limited privileges to perform unauthorized actions on a policy branch. Under specific circumstances, an attacker could potentially leverage this to retrieve unauthorized secrets, alter administrative access controls on the branch or cause a denial of service (DoS).
An issue in Trisolutions BRPerfX version 1.4.4.0 exposes LDAP credentials in plaintext within the administrative configuration interface. An authenticated administrator can inspect the client-side code to retrieve the credential.
Netgate pfSense CE through 2.9.0 contains an authorization bypass vulnerability that allows read-only WebGUI users to replace config.xml because config_restore() and config_install() ignore the 'User - Config: Deny Config Write' privilege. Attackers holding page privileges for services_acb.php, uploadconfig.php, diag_confbak.php, or diag_backup.php can install a chosen config.xml to gain root-level code execution after reload or reboot.
pfSense CE 2.7.0 through 2.9.0 contains a command injection vulnerability in services_captiveportal_hasync.php that allows users with only the Captive Portal HA privilege to execute commands as root. Attackers can set backwardsyncip to a malicious XMLRPC server returning connected_users with shell metacharacters in ip or mac fields, which captiveportal_load_pfctl passes unescaped to a pfctl shell command.
pfSense CE 2.4.5 through 2.9.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability that allows authenticated WebGUI users with Advanced Admin Access privilege to execute commands as root via Login Protection settings. Attackers can submit sshguard threshold, block time, or detection time values containing newlines or $(...) that are written unvalidated to sshguard.conf and sourced as root on restart.
pfSense CE through 2.9.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability in the OpenVPN openvpn.connect_async.sh script that allows authenticated VPN users to execute commands as root via crafted usernames. Attackers authenticated through RADIUS or LDAP can use usernames containing single quotes and shell metacharacters to break out of the eval'd pfctl anchor name on connect or disconnect.
Netgate pfSense CE 2.7.0 through 2.9.0 contains a configuration injection vulnerability that allows authenticated users with IPsec Mobile privileges to execute commands as root via the login_banner field. Attackers can submit a single-line banner containing '}' to escape the unquoted strongswan.conf attr value and define charon.start-scripts entries that charon executes as root on restart.
pfSense CE through 2.9.0 contains a crontab injection vulnerability in interfaces_ppps_edit.php that allows authenticated users to execute commands as root by injecting newlines into the ptpid or reset hour/minute fields. Attackers holding the 'WebCfg - Interfaces: PPPs: Edit' privilege can submit crafted POST values that configure_cron() writes unescaped into /etc/crontab, running arbitrary root commands on schedule.
Netgate pfSense CE 2.7.0 through 2.9.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability that allows authenticated users with Traffic Shaper Limiters privileges to execute root commands by tampering with the limiter number field. Attackers can submit a malicious hidden 'number' value when editing a limiter, then delete it so delete_queue() passes the unquoted value to dnctl via /bin/sh as root.
Netgate pfSense CE through 2.9.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability that allows authenticated users with Virtual IP edit privileges to execute commands as root by storing an unvalidated CARP VHID. Attackers can supply a VHID containing shell metacharacters that executes via interface_ipalias_configure() ifconfig calls or get_carp_interface_status() when CARP status is rendered.
Netgate pfSense CE through 2.9.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability that allows authenticated users with gateway edit privileges to execute commands as root by injecting shell metacharacters into an IPv6 link-local zone index. Attackers can set a gateway Monitor IP whose unvalidated zone carries a payload, which start_dpinger() passes unescaped to the dpinger shell command when monitoring is applied.
Netgate pfSense CE through 2.9.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability. An authenticated user with limited Wireless Edit or Interface Assignments privileges can supply a crafted wireless parent interface name (e.g. ath0;<cmd>), which is interpolated unescaped into an ifconfig shell command, allowing commands to be executed as root.
Netgate pfSense CE 2.7.0 through 2.9.0 contains an OS command injection vulnerability. An authenticated user with QinQ edit privilege can store an unvalidated parent interface name that is later interpolated into ifconfig shell commands, executing commands as root.
LightLLM through 1.2.0 contains a denial of service vulnerability. An unauthenticated attacker can send a single request to the /generate endpoint with the internal pd_kv_trans_params field, causing pickle.loads to fail in InferSamplingParams and killing the inference thread while /health stays up and later requests hang until restart.
undici, an HTTP client library for Node.js, in versions 6.23.0-6.29.0, 7.18.0-7.30.0, and 8.0.0-8.12.1 crashes the Node.js process when a malicious server returns a response with more than five content codings and closes the connection before sending the body. undici rejects the response due to a content-encoding limit, but the internal response stream was created before that check without an error listener or request abort, so the early close surfaces an unhandled error and terminates the process.
undici in versions 7.0.0-7.30.0 and 8.0.0-8.12.1, when an originless Agent composes the redirect and cache interceptors in that order with a shared cache store, builds the cache key from the original request URL before the redirect handler changes the origin. A response produced after a cross-origin redirect is stored under the original key, allowing persistent cache poisoning and disclosure of private data to a later unauthenticated caller.
